Preliminary 2016-17 Men's Basketball Schedule
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State Men's Basketball will again face the nation's elite in preparation for Big West competition, as the Beach has announced their preliminary 2016-17 schedule. Homecoming for the Beach will be on November 5 to start out the new season.
"Just like it has in the last five or six years, the schedule is going to challenge ourselves in the preseason against some of the best teams in the country," said head coach Dan Monson. "That will give us a good barometer of where we are as we head into Big West play."
Continuing a campus tradition, Long Beach State will open the 2016-17 campaign with Homecoming in conjunction with the University. This season, the Beach will host Cal Tech on November 5 in an exhibition beginning at 4 p.m.
Playing a second home game to open the regular season, the Beach will then host Cal State Los Angeles on Friday, November 11 at 7 p.m.
The challenge picks up from there, as Long Beach State will have a long road stretch in which they will face some of the nation's top teams, as LBSU will likely have a non-conference strength of schedule in the top three in the country for the sixth straight season.
The Beach will play four straight Power 5 conference teams on the road, starting by facing North Carolina, UCLA, and Washington. Closing the road swing, Long Beach State will head to Kansas on November 29 before traveling to play former conference rival New Mexico State on December 3.
Returning to the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach State will host Pepperdine on December 7, before playing two more Power 5 teams on the road at Texas and against Oregon State in Portland at the Moda Center, home of the Portland Trailblazers.
Closing out the non-conference home slate, the 49ers host The Master's on December 19 before hosting Colorado State on December 22 in a rematch of last season's tilt in Fort Collins, Colo. LBSU then makes one final trip, to Eastern Michigan, before beginning conference play on the road at UC Irvine on January 4.
More games will be announced as they are finalized to complete the 2016-17 schedule. To view the current slate, please visit our schedule page.
