Long Beach, Calif. -
Long Beach State's six-week long Beach Athletic Club Membership Challenge has concluded, with the drive resulting in the addition of 153 new partners in support of Long Beach State Athletics.
As part of the challenge, over $25,000 in new money was raised which will help support Long Beach State's efforts in its twin pursuits of winning championships and graduating student-athletes. Any donor who makes a gift of $100 or more is considered a member of the Beach Athletic Club.
"We're all really proud of how this program launched," said Sara Cerulle, Assistant Athletics Director for Development. "The commitment showed by our captains was remarkable, and they were determined from the beginning to make it a success."
The Beach would like to thank each of our captains and volunteers who made this event such a success, helping push Beach Athletic Club (BAC) membership over 900, passing last year's total with still two months left in the fiscal year. 33 total volunteers were split into nine teams, led by captains Mike Gallo, Tayyiba Haneef-Park, Brendan Diette, Amanda Stayton, Michael Fong, Loren Edwards, Cory Loebl, Ashley Richardson and Ryan Rayburn.
Loebl's team ended up bringing in the most cash over the course of the challenge, and Loebl himself led all individuals with 28 new Beach Athletic Club memberships brought in. In the team competition, Michael Fong's group was the winner, producing 40 new Beach Athletic Club memberships over the six weeks.
"I felt an obligation to be a part of the BAC challenge because I know there has been a lack of financial and personal support from our alumni. I don't feel it's because they don't want to, it's more because they have been disconnected with the university and our team as the years go by," said Loebl. "Since I've been with the program as an athlete or coach for the last 15 years, I have had some type of connection with hundreds of former track athletes. That connection is valuable and I know the success that my team had throughout the challenge came from these personal connections."
The Beach Athletic Club is the booster club for all 19 sports programs at Long Beach State. The BAC works with each head coach to raise money to support his or her team operating budgets, upgrade and enhance facilities, and secure legacy gifts in support of endowments. The BAC is the first point of access for all stakeholders seeking access to the program, whether it is to purchase a ticket, game day parking, or join a team for a donor trip.
