Long Beach State senior Nick Faust has been invited to participate in the 2016 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, held annually in Portsmouth, Virginia. One of the top pre-draft showcases, the event is limited to the top 64 college seniors in the country.
Contested over the course of four days, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament features eight teams of eight players each, and serves as a showcase for NBA and European scouts looking for the top senior talent in the NCAA.
Faust is the only player in the Big West to be invited, and one of only four players chosen from a mid-major conference in the west, joining Fresno State's Marvelle Harris, BYU's Kyle Collinsworth, and Wyoming's Josh Adams.
Faust is the first 49er to represent the Beach at Portsmouth since James Ennis was invited for the 2013 tournament. Ennis went on to be drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the NBA draft, and has played for three NBA teams, including finishing this last season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Newcomer of the Year in the Big West, Faust led the conference in scoring in league play, and his 609 points scored in 2015-16 were the seventh-most in program history. Faust earned first-team All-Big West as well as first-team All-District 9 honors in his only season with Long Beach State.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament begins on April 13, and runs through April 16.
