Daniel Chian Ties For Second At OGIO-UCSB Intercollegiate

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Daniel Chian tied for second-place at the OGIO-UCSB Intercollegiate after shooting a 73 in Monday's final round at Sandpiper Golf Club, leading Long Beach State to fourth.
LBSU completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 14-over-par 878, posting its best score of the tournament with a 291.
Cal Poly claimed the team title with a two-under 862 as the Mustangs won by 10 shots over second-place Grand Canyon (+8) and 12 strokes over tournament host UC Santa Barbara (+10) in third.
Chian finished four shots behind individual medalist Felix Mory of CSUN (-8), collecting his fifth consecutive top-five finish and sixth overall this year. Chian turned in a scorecard that was highlighted with four birdies, two bogeys and 11 pars. He also posted a triple-bogey on his second hole of the round on the par-four No. 2.
Seniors Michael Chen and Kevin Lee tied for 24th at seven-over 223. Chen shot a 75 to fall six spots in the standings, while Lee carded a tournament best 72 to move up five spots.
Junior Jonny Hogan carded a 73, tying for 27th at eight-over 224, while redshirt freshman Joe Fryer carded his best round of the tournament with a 73 to move up 10 spots in the standings to tie for 41st at 13-over 229.
Junior Nick Cantlay and freshman Tanner Dice, playing as individuals for the 49ers tied for 27th and 52nd respectively. Cantlay closed out the tournament with a 72 to finish at eight-over, while Dice shot an 80 for 19-over 235.
The 49ers return to action May 2-4, for the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship at Wood Ranch Country Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
