Nele Barber Named AVCA All-Region

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2016 Division I All-Region Teams on Tuesday, and Long Beach State senior Nele Barber was selected as an All-Region performer in the Pacific South Region. Barber becomes the 30th Long Beach State player to be recognized by the AVCA, either as All-Region or Honorable Mention, and LBSU has now had at least one player recognized in each of the last 20 seasons.
The outside hitter from Berlin, Germany spent two seasons at the Beach, and was a two-time First Team All-Big West selection. Barber led the 49ers in kills and digs in both seasons, and was an eight-time Big West Player of the Week.
As a senior, Barber averaged 4.10 kills and 3.51 digs per set with a .260 hitting percentage. She was second on the team with 27 aces, led the team in solo blocks with 16, and recorded a total of 45 double-doubles in her career.
The AVCA All-Region awards are voted on by the head coaches in each region. The Pacific South Region is comprised of the following 25 schools from the Big West, Mountain West, Pac-12, Western Athletic and West Coast Conferences: Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA, USC, Utah, Cal State Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Utah Valley, BYU, LMU, Pepperdine, and San Diego.
