LBSU Places 14th At Nick Watney Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team completed its first tournament of the season, finishing in 14th place at the Nick Watney Invitational at San Joaquin Country Club.
LBSU recorded a final round score of 307 to edge last place Cal State Bakersfield by one shot. The Beach completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 61-over-par 913.
BYU claimed the team title with a 1-over 853, as the Cougars led the 15-team field by two strokes over Nevada and Saint Mary's (+3) tied for second and seven shots over Cal Poly (+8) in fourth.
Hunter Reed was the top player for the Beach, shooting a final round 73 to tie for 48th at 11-over 224.
Andres Gonzalez and Tanner Dice, playing as an individual, tied for 67th at 15-over. Gonzalez carded a 75, while Dice turned in a 74.
Joe Fryer and Patrick Pockels tied for 75th at 18-over as Fryer shot an 83 and Pockels posted a 77.
Kymer Li recorded an 82 to tie for 86th (+30).
The Gaels' Perry Cohen captured individual medalist with a 5-under 208, winning by one shot over the Mustangs' Justin De Los Santos (-4).
The 49ers return to action on Monday, Oct. 17, taking part in the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Country Club in Simi Valley.
