Ashton McKeown Named Big West Defensive Player Of the Week

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Ashton McKeown was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording a pair of shutouts to close the regular season.
Making five saves against both UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara, McKeown held the Highlanders scoreless over 110 minutes on the road in a 0-0 tie, and then helped preserve a 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara with an outstanding save in the closing seconds to seal Long Beach State's place in the Big West Tournament.
In the process, McKeown lowered her Goals Against Average on the season to 0.69, and the senior now has 25 shutouts over her career.
McKeown previously garnered the award on September 26, while Chloe Froment was also selected earlier this season, marking three times a Beach player has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Long Beach State opens the postseason this Thursday, hosting the Big West Tournament at George Allen Field. The 49ers face off against top-seeded CSUN at 5 p.m.
