Long Beach, Calif. - The Dirtbags will be hosting their annual Alumni Game on Saturday at Blair Field, featuring a handful of current and former big leaguers. The current Long Beach State roster will go up against stars of the past at 1 p.m., following an old timer's game that starts at 10 a.m. Admission for the whole day is free to the public.
Current San Francisco Giants star Matt Duffy will be in attendance, possibly joined by Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki—who visited Dirtbags practice earlier this week—and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Jered Weaver, who was out at the alumni golf tournament on Friday.
Recent Tampa Bay Rays signee Adam Wilk will throw for the alumni team, as will former big leaguers Abe Alvarez, Bobby Cramer and Mike Gallo. Plenty of other recent Dirtbags alums will return to their old stomping grounds, including: Juan Avila, Alex Bishop, Eddie Magallon, Brennan Metzger, Ino Patron, Richard Prigatano and many others.
Following the event, there will be a Dirtbags social at Joe Jost's from 5-8 p.m., with all proceeds going to benefit the Long Beach State baseball program.
Next Thursday, Feb. 4, is the annual Lead Off Dinner at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Long Beach, featuring special guest speaker Terry Francona, manager of the Cleveland Indians.
