Benson Named Big West Defensive Player Of The Week

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Hayley Benson was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week after a dominant performance at the net in the first two matches of conference play against UC Davis and UC Irvine.
Benson made seven blocks in both matches, averaging a total of two blocks per set on the weekend. The senior also added 18 kills, second on the team, and hit .263 over the two matches.
Benson now leads the squad on the season, averaging 1.00 kill per set this season for the 49ers. The senior is the second 49er to earn defensive player of the year honor in 2015, joining Mykah Wilson, who earned the honor after week one.
