Long Beach, Calif. - Junior Nele Barber was named the Big West Player of the Week, leading Long Beach State to a pair of wins including defeating No. 21 San Diego with three double-doubles in three matches.
Barber has picked up a double-double in kills and digs in seven straight matches, and has done so in 11 of the last 12 matches for Long Beach State.
The junior led the way for the Beach with 16 kills and 13 digs in an upset win over No. 21 San Diego, also making a season high five blocks in the contest to lead the Beach to a crucial non-conference win.
Barber made 10 kills and 10 digs despite a loss to No. 14 UCLA, and finished her week with a massive match, hitting .640 with 16 kills and making a career-high 17 digs in a sweep of Oregon State.
The wins over the weekend helped propel Long Beach State back into the AVCA Top 25, where the 49ers currently rank 25th.
Barber is the first Player of the Week winner this season for Long Beach State. Freshman Mykah Wilson is the other conference award winner for the Beach in 2015, picking up Defensive Player of the Week honors following the first week of the season.
