Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman libero Mykah Wilson was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive debut through the first three matches of her collegiate career.
Wilson, a native of Southlake, Texas, started all three matches last weekend for the Beach, and recorded over 15 digs in each match and set a career high in each match.
After making 18 digs in her debut against Alabama, Wilson made 19 digs against No. 25 Duke as the 49ers dropped the Blue Devils in five sets. Finally, Wilson made 21 digs over four sets against St. Mary's.
On the weekend, Wilson averaged 4.46 digs per set, and also made six assists, second on the team.
Wilson is the third 49er to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors, an award that was introduced by the conference last season. Tyler Jackson was a three-time winner last season, while Ashley Murray garnered the award once.
