6/26/2015 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
Since the beginning of the 2015 Major League Baseball season, four more Dirtbags have made their way on to a 25-man MLB roster. Several more are enjoying strong seasons in the minor leagues.
Currently, 33 Dirtbags are playing professional baseball in either the MLB or the minor leagues, including 2015 draftees Kyle Friedrichs and Logan Lombana. Both made their professional debuts on June 25.
Friedrichs signed with the Athletics and was assigned to their Single-A Short Season affiliate, the Vermont Lake Monsters. He started and tossed one inning, allowing a solo homer. Lombana signed with the Twins and was assigned to their Rookie League affiliate, the Elizabethton Twins. He came out of the bullpen for his debut and pitched a scoreless inning.
Adam Wilk, Branden Pinder, Shane Peterson and Joey Terdoslavich have all made their way up to the MLB since the beginning of the 2015 MLB season, increasing the number of Dirtbags in the MLB to 16 this year. All four have also spent time with their respective AAA clubs.
Wilk has made one appearance with the Angels and has made 13 starts with the Salt Lake Bees. Pinder has been effective in 10-plus innings with the Yankees while splitting time between New York and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Peterson was with the Colorado Sky Sox before hitting .302 and making several Web Gems with the Brewers over the last month. Terdoslavich began the year on rehab assignment but hit his first career MLB home run when he returned to the Atlanta Braves.
John Bowker, Drew Gagnon and Jake Thompson began the season on AAA rosters. Bowker was originally with the Fresno Grizzlies (the Giants affiliate) but was traded to the Pirates and is now with the Indianapolis Indians. Thompson is with the Tampa Bay Rays AAA affiliate, the Durham Bulls, but has been on the disabled this this season. Drew Gagnon is in his first year at the AAA level with Brewers AAA affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
Shane Carle also made one start at the AAA level this year but has made 14 starts with the New Britain Rock Cats -- the Colorado Rockies AA affiliate. He is having a strong year in the rotation with an 8-4 record and a 3.44 ERA. Matt Anderson has made 23 relief appearances for the AA Jackson Generals with 10 saves and a 3.62 ERA.
Devin Lohman also made a brief appearance in AA within the Phillies system but has spent the majority of the season with the High-A Clearwater Threshers, hitting .232. Jeff McNeil was a starter in the Florida State League All-Star Game due to another strong season at the plate. He is hitting .327 for the High-A St. Lucie Mets. Also at the High-A level, Jon Maciel is in the rotation for the Lakeland Flying Tigers and Mike Marjama is hitting .291 for the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
Brennan Metzger has jumped around a bit within the Giants organization. He started the year at High-A San Jose but has since spent time with the Low-A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and is currently with the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets. Michael Hill moved up to the Royals Single-A affiliate, the Lexington Legends, in 2015 and is hitting .254.
Fellow 2014 draftee Richard Prigatano just began his year with the Rockies Short Season affiliate, the Boise Hawks. Kirk Singer also just began his year at Short Season with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Nick Sabo remained in the Giants Rookie League with the AZL Giants.
