Holen, Chian Finish In Top-10 At Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Senior JJ Holen recorded a season-best tying for sixth-place on Tuesday afternoon at the Cowboy Classic at the Whirlwind Golf Club.
Long Beach State fell two spots in the team standings placing 12th after posting a team high 292 in the final round to finish the two-day tournament at two-over 866.
McNeese State captured the team title with a 26-under 838 as the Cowboys won by a narrow two shots over second-place Idaho (-24) and four strokes over No. 47 Colorado (-22) in third.
Holen started the round from the par-four ninth hole as he went bogey-free on the first nine holes which included back-to-back birdies on the Nos. 14 and 15. After making the turn onto the front-nine, the Castaic native collected two more birdies and six pars and one bogey to close out the final round with an even-72.
Junior Daniel Chian fired a 68 to turn in his best round of the tournament, jumping 22 spots in the standings to tie for 10th at 6-under 210. Chian's scorecard was highlighted by four birdies, 11 pars and one eagle.
Senior Kevin Techakanokboon recorded his highest round of the tournament with a 79 to fall 28 spots in the standings to tie for 74th at 7-over 223.
Freshman Austin Orkin fell in the standings tying for 89th after carding a 79 to finish at 14-over 230.
Senior Kevin Lee recorded a five-shot improvement to post his best round of the tournament with a 73 to move up five spots, tying for 93rd at 16-over.
Devon Purser of Weber State captured individual medalist after winning a one-hole playoff with Robert MacIntyre ( McNeese State) and Jared du Toit (Idaho).
LBSU returns to action Apr. 13-14 for the OGIO-UCSB Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
