49ers In Fifth After Day Two At Big West Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship, Long Beach State remains in fifth-place after recording a 289 in Monday's second round at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
LBSU posted a nine-shot improvement to finish with a two-day total of 27-over-par 587. The 49ers trail fourth-place tournament host Cal Poly (+25) by two shots.
UC Davis moved into first-place at 13-over 573 as the Aggies leads the field of nine teams by two strokes over UC Irvine and UC Riverside (+15) tied for second.
Sixth-place UC Santa Barbara (+30) trails LBSU by three shots, while seventh-place Cal State Fullerton (+36) is nine stroke behind. CSUN (+39) finished in eighth and Hawai'i (+63) remained in ninth.
Senior Kevin Techakanokboon and junior Daniel Chian are tied for seventh at five-over 145. Techakanokboon carded a 73 to drop two spots in the standings, while Chian turned in a three-shot improvement to jump 11 spots.
Junior Kevin Lee recorded a 73 to move up six positions, tying for 17th at eight-over 148.
Senior JJ Holen posted a five shot improvement with a 72 to move up seven spots in the standings, tying for 24th at nine-over 149.
Freshman Ryder Epson shot a 75 to place 43rd at 18-over.
David Gazzolo of UC Riverside and Peter Fernandez of UC Irvine shares the lead on top of the leaderboard at one-over 141, as both players holds a two shot lead over three players tied for third.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 7:30 a.m. from the first tee and will be paired with the Mustangs and Gauchos.
