
49ers Dominant In 5-0 Win Over Saint Mary's

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State cruised to a 5-0 win over Saint Mary's Friday, not dropping a set on the way to the win. With the victory, Beach improved to 5-2 on the year.
Long Beach State (5-2) clinched the win in the first round of action, winning all three matches in the bottom three flights. Rachel Nieto and Sammee Thomas took advantage of a number of Gaels errors to win convincingly, 21-6, 21-9 at No. 5, while Andrea McHugh and Ciana Wagner also held their opponent to single digits in the second set in a 21-12, 21-7 victory.
The closest match of the day came at No. 3, where Bre Mackie had five second-set blocks to help lift her and Jenelle Hudson over Clare Powers and Mileva Popovic 21-18, 21-16. That match clinched the win for the Beach over Saint Mary's (3-7).
At No. 2, Anete Brinke finished with 17 kills and no errors as Tyler Jackson and the freshman rolled to a 21-10, 21-12 victory over Mary Hernandez and Alexis Salmons.
Chelsea Cabrajac finished with seven aces, including two back-to-back to finish off the first set as she along with Delainey Aigner-Swesey won 21-15, 21-18 in the top flight to close out the day.
Long Beach State is back in action Tuesday, playing on the road at CSUN before hosting a three-way dual with No. 8 UCLA and Bakersfield beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4.
