LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach State Dirtbags suffered a lopsided loss to visiting San Diego State on Tuesday at Blair Field. The Aztecs (14-3) scored in seven different innings to fuel a 16-1 defeat of the Dirtbags (9-7).

SDSU tallied 13 hits in the contest with three going for extra bases but also took advantage of five Dirtbags errors and seven free passes. Steven Pallares and Danny Sheehan led the charge from the top of the Aztecs order. Pallares was 2-for-4 with a homer, four runs batted in and four runs scored while Sheehan went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.

SDSU took full advantage of a walk, error and wild pitch in the second to jump on top 2-0. The Dirtbags got one run back in the bottom half when Zack Domingues cashed in Daniel Jackson, who had led the inning off with a double.

However, San Diego State went up 3-1 after a walk, two errors and a sacrifice fly in the third. In the fourth, the Aztecs broke the game open with four more runs. After a scoreless fifth, SDSU plated at least one run in each of the last four frames to build its lead.

Ryan Cruz had his shortest starting outing of the year at three and two thirds innings and suffered his second loss of the season. Marcus Reyes earned the win while limiting the Dirtbags to four hits over seven innings.

The Dirtbags have a short turnaround before a long layoff as they host George Washington tomorrow at 6 p.m.
