LONG BEACH - No. 10 Long Beach State suffered a 25-17, 27-25, 25-19 setback to sixth-ranked Hawai'i Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid. The Beach drew a season-high home attendance of 1,197.

LBSU dropped to 8-8 overall and 5-8 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Rainbow Warriors improved to 13-3, 10-2 MPSF.

For the second night in a row, junior Dan Glamack was the 49ers' kill leader with 11. He also tied sophomore Bryce Yould for the team lead with five blocks. Junior Andrew Whitt earned his fourth start of the year and finished with a season-high nine kills.

Senior Ryan Windisch registered his ninth double-figure dig match of the season with a match-high 10 digs.

The Beach out blocked a big and physical Hawai'i team, 8.5-to-7.5, but the `Bows won the battle in kills, 45-to-33, and hit .307.

UH jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set before Long Beach State got on the board with a kill from junior John La Rusch. The Rainbow Warriors stayed out front and increased their cushion to eight at 15-7. The two teams then traded points until the Beach made a mini run to close the gap to, 20-15, but Hawai'i sided out and rolled to the 25-17 win.

LBSU cut down on the unforced errors in set two and went up 5-1 on a double block by Glamack and Yould. The `Bows eventually used an 8-1 spurt to take a 12-8 lead, but the 49ers were able to keep it close and reclaimed the advantage at 17-16 following back-to-back kills from La Rusch. Hawai'i went back on top by three and held set point at 24-21 before Long Beach State reeled off three unanswered to knot the score at 24-all. UH then got a kill from Sinisa Zarkovic and emerged with the 27-25 victory.

Hawai'i accounted for the first three points of the third set, but the Beach came back to even the score at 5-5 following kills from Glamack and Whitt. Three more ties ensued before the Rainbow Warriors pulled away with a 10-2 run that gave them an 18-10 edge. LBSU cut the deficit in half at 20-16, but the visitors pushed their lead back to seven before closing it out at 25-19.

Kupono Fey paced the `Bows with 12 kills on .556 hitting. Brooke Sedore and Taylor Averill also chipped in nine kills each.

Long Beach State will be back on the road next week when it heads to No. 8 UC Santa Barbara (March 4) and No. 9 UCLA (March 6).
