Techakanokboon Tied for Fourth in Hawai'i

Lihu'e, KAUA'I - Senior Kevin Techakanokboon fired a 2-under-par 70 in the opening round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate tying for fourth-place and leading Long Beach State to eighth at the Wailua Golf Club.
LBSU posted a 6-over 294 to finish in the middle of the 17-team field as the 49ers holds a one-shot lead over No. 24 New Mexico and Washington State tied for ninth.
Twenty-second ranked California leads the field of 17 teams at 6-under as the Golden Bears holds a five-shot lead over No. 30 UNLV in second and six strokes over Texas A&M in third.
Techakanokboon's 70 tied him with three other players at 2-under as they sit just three shots behind California's Shotaro Ban at 5-under. Ban sits on the top of the leaderboard of 93 players holding a one-stroke lead over George Cunningham of Arizona.
Techakanokboon started the day on the par-4 No. 4 going even-par on his first two holes. The Cerritos native would score two consecutive birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to go 2-under. He would collect his first bogey for the round on the par-4 eighth to go 1-under on his next two holes going into the back-nine.
On the next four holes, Techakanokboon would birdie on the 10th, bogey the 11th, pared the 12th and eagle the 13th to go 3-under through six holes. He collected his last bogey of the day on the par-5 No. 1 hole to go 2-under on his last two holes of the day.
Junior Daniel Chian carded an even-72 with three birdies, tying for 16th, followed by fellow classmate Kevin Lee shooting a 75 to tie for 39th.
Senior JJ Holen is tied for 60th after posting a 77 and sophomore Agostino Milazzo tied for 77th with a 79.
Second round action continues on Thursday with a 10:30 a.m. (PST) shotgun start, with the 49ers paired with the Lobos and Cougars.
