Long Beach, Calif. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its All-Region teams on Tuesday morning, and Long Beach State senior Jenelle Hudson was selected to the Pacific South Region First Team. After another stellar campaign with the Beach, resulting in her second first-team All-Big West honor, Hudson was voted one of the elite players in the area by opposing coaches.
Hudson received honorable mention All-Region last season, and now becomes the 24th player in Long Beach State history to be named to an All-Region first team. It's the second straight year LBSU has had a first-teamer after Chisom Okpala received the honor in 2014. The Beach has now had a player on the All-Region first team in 11 of the last 12 seasons.
Hudson led the Big West with 10.74 assists per set, guiding LBSU to a .258 hitting percentage on the season. One of two 49ers to play in every single set this season, she led the team with 22 service aces, was third on the team with 270 digs and was fourth on the team with a .304 hitting percentage. Hudson also recorded 10 double-doubles this year, led by a 51-assist, 26-dig performance in a marathon five-set win over Cal Poly. The captain even approached a triple-double on a few occasions this season, most notably at UC Santa Barbara when she finished with 43 assists, 10 digs and nine kills.
The Pacific South Region is comprised of 25 teams from the Big West, Mountain West, Pac-12, and WAC conferences. The coaches from those 25 schools nominate and vote on the best players from those programs. The schools in the Pacific South Region are: Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA, USC, Utah, CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Utah Valley, BYU, LMU, Pepperdine and San Diego.
