LONG BEACH - Senior center back Melanie Fox (Valencia, Calif.) was named to the CollegeSoccer360.com National Primetime Performers Honor Roll the website announced on Wednesday.
This marks the second time this season that Long Beach State has had a player featured on the CS360 Honor Roll as fellow senior Val Margerum was also recognized on Aug. 26.
Fox was the centerpiece of a defensive effort that blanked defending conference champion Cal State Fullerton in both teams' Big West opener on Sunday, Oct. 4. LBSU's 1-0 overtime win snapped CSF's 12-game unbeaten streak against league opponents.
The 49ers were also the only team to shut out the Titans this year as the last time they were held scoreless was in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with the Beach on Oct. 9, 2014. Prior to Sunday's contest, Fullerton was averaging a conference-best 15 shots and 2.7 goals per game.
In addition to leading the defense to its seventh clean sheet, Fox also made an impact in the attacking third where she notched the primary assist on the golden goal in the 93rd minute. Fox connected with Margerum's free kick, heading the ball backward in the 18-yard box to Ashley Gonzales who one-touched it past the keeper to the far post.
