49ers Finish In Fifth At Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Long Beach State recorded a 288 in the final round of the 20th Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club to finish in fifth-place.
LBSU posted an eight shot improvement from Monday's second round score of 296 to move three spots in the team standings. The 49ers completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at three-over-par 867.
Loyola Marymount captured the team title with a 22-under 842 score to win by five strokes over second-place Pepperdine (-17) and 10 shots over Santa Clara (-12) in third.
Senior Daniel Chian was the top player for the Beach, tying for 12th at three-under 213. The Covina, Calif. native fired a two-under 70 for the second consecutive round to post his second top-20 performance this season. Chian recorded five birdies, three bogeys and 10 pars.
Junior Jonny Hogan posted a high round 75 to fall in the standings by seven spots after shooting a high round 75, tying for 25th at one-over 217.
Senior Kevin Lee moved up the standings to tie for 29th after carding a low round 72 to finish at two-over 218.
Senior Michael Chen and freshman Patrick Pockels carded their best rounds of the tournament, shooting a final round 73 to tie for 48th and 67th respectively. Chen finished at seven-over while Pockels finished four strokes behind at 11-over.
Freshman Spencer Koch, playing as an individual, posted a four-shot improvement to record his best round of the tournament with a 72 to tie for 40th at five-over 221.
Fidel Concepcion of Southern Utah won individual medalist with a nine-under 207, winning by one-shot over Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara.
LBSU returns to action on Oct. 29, for the three-day Pacific Invitational at the Stockton Golf & Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
