49er Men Wins Highlander Invitational Title

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's cross country team captured the Highlander Invitational team title on Saturday morning at UC Riverside's Agricultural Operations Course.
LBSU recorded a total of 38 points as two 49ers finished in the top-five and three placed in the top-20. The Beach won by a comfortable 23 points over second-place Cal State Fullerton (61 points) and 39 points over UC Irvine (77) in third.
This marked the first team title under second-year distance coach Tom Walsh.
Junior Kevin Ramirez led the way for the 49ers in the men's 6,000-meter race, crossing the finish line in third in a time of 17:51.32, with fellow classmate Sam Bautista finishing one second behind in fourth.
Junior Emilio Nunez placed eighth with a mark of 18:14.65, followed by freshman Andres Barragan in 10th (18:21.90) and junior Cameron Ford in 13th (18:36.07).
Freshman Angel Franco finished in 36th (19:17.47) and redshirt sophomore Kaden Lapham placed 51st (20:13.10)
On the women's side, junior Kathleen Dunne was the top runner for the third consecutive race for LBSU, placing fifth with a personal-best in the 5K of 17:43.58.
Juniors Ashley Carrera (10th), Pauline Mandel (20th) and Valeria Soto (34th) posted personal-bests as Carrera ran to a time of 18:10.72, Mandel of 18:32.88 and Soto of 18:55.37.
Sophomore Mikayla Florez placed 36th (19:01.09), while freshman Janet Salazar finished in 57th (19:49.36) and sophomore Alexandra Lathos took 59th (19:52.22).
