Men's Water Polo Dominates Occidental In Home Opener

No. 8 Long Beach State's offense was flourishing in the home opener against Occidental College, winning 19-2. Nine different 49ers scored in the win.
Senior Josh Tice led the way for the Beach scoring a game-high five goals. Sophomore Jacob Fujioka and redshirt freshman Troy Kaltenbach each added hat tricks.
The 49ers came out with a quick 5-0 start. Tice and Troy Kaltenbach each scored two goals in the first quarter. One of Fujioka's three goals also came in the first.
The second quarter was where the Beach found most of their offense, adding on seven goals. Tice led the way with two, as redshirt freshman Max Cusator contributed a goal that was his second of the season.
Sophomore Caleb Schultz started the match and played the first half, earning four saves.
The second half started a little slow with the Beach scoring three goals from Lee Griffin, Troy Kaltenbach and Chandler Kaltenbach.
The fourth picked up a little with the Tigers scoring their first goals of the match, both by Matt Weiser. The Beach added on four more goals, tallying up 19 goals - the most the 49ers have scored this season.
Garrett Kaltenbach replaced Schultz in the second half adding on eight saves. The Beach combined for 12 saves in the match.
LBSU improves to a 6-9 overall record with another non-conference home match prepared for tonight against No. 15 UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
