Hampson Ranked Among Top Sophomores In Baseball

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Reigning Big West Freshman Player of the Year Garret Hampson is one of the best sophomores in college baseball, according Perfect Game. The scouting service released its annual list of the top-100 sophomores in the country on Thursday and Hampson checked in at No. 25.
Hampson ranked as the top Big West player and the top shortstop in Perfect Game’s top-100 sophomores for 2015. He is coming off of a spectacular freshman season that saw him grab Big West Freshman Player of the Year honors as well as several Freshmen All-America accolades.
A freshman phenom in 2014, Hampson started every game at shortstop for the Dirtbags and helped lead Long Beach State back to the postseason. Hampson hit .308 and led the team with 74 hits, 44 runs scored and 13 doubles.
Hampson and the Dirtbags will have their first team practice of the season next week before hosting the annual Alumni Weekend. The first game is set for Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. when LBSU hosts Michigan.
