Long Beach, Calif. - Former Loyola Marymount forward Gabe Levin has enrolled at Long Beach State and will join the Beach men's basketball roster as a redshirt during the 2014-15 campaign.
Levin started all 29 games he suited up for as a freshman at LMU, averaging 11.1 points per game and 7.2 rebounds while setting a Lion freshman record for double-doubles with six. He led the Lions in rebounding last season, and was third on the team in scoring.
Assistant coach Myke Scholl is also in his first year at the Beach after leaving LMU, and coached Levin during his time with the Lions.
"Gabe has an extremely high character, and is a hard-working, big time athlete," said Scholl. "He's a talented rebounder, and his numbers show his versatility both scoring and on the glass. He gives us another hybrid forward who can play inside-out at a high level."
Levin set a career high with 20 points at South Dakota State last season, and had double-doubles against Northern Arizona, Northern Iowa, Pitt, UC Riverside, Pacific and in the WCC Championship game against BYU, where he scored 18 points with 10 rebounds.
Eligible to practice immediately, and will join fellow Division I transfers Roschon Prince (USC) and Nick Faust (Maryland) on the LBSU practice squad in advance of their playing eligibility in 2015-16.
Levin is part of a recruiting class that includes three freshman as well as Prince and Faust. The three transfers will join guard Noah Blackwell and forwards LaRond Williams and Mason Riggins in their first season playing at the Beach in 2015-16.
