LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior libero Tyler Jackson was selected as the Big West's Defender of the Week after helping Long Beach State to a 4-0 record last week. Jackson entered LBSU's all-time top-10 for digs during Saturday's four set win over San Francisco.
Jackson averaged just under five digs per set last week to run her career total to 1,070 digs, which launched her past Nicelle Burton (1,057 digs from 1991-94) for 10th all-time. The hometown senior isn't done moving up the top-10 with former teammate Caitlin Ledoux only 41 digs in front of her for ninth.
LBSU went 4-0 last week and held three of its four opponents to under a .100 hitting percentage. Jackson led the back row effort with 4.93 digs per set and had a season-high 24 digs in the four-set win over San Francisco. She tallied double digit digs in all four matches.
She is currently leading the team with 3.83 digs per set and has a pair of service aces and is Long Beach State's first recipient of a weekly away in 2014.
Hawaii's Olivia Magill was awarded the Big West Player of the Week award and Niki Withers was named the Freshman of the Week.
Long Beach State is back at home for four matches this weekend, beginning with a Thursday night match in the Pyramid against undefeated LMU.
