Mackie's Career Night Leads the Beach Past Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bre Mackie had a career night on the attack and led the Long Beach State women's volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-22, 11-25, 25-10 win over Bakersfield. The Beach hit .362 in the match and overcame the hiccup in the third set to extend its winning streak to five matches.
Mackie had a career-high 17 kills and hit a career-best .615. Mackie also put up five blocks and had eight digs in the four-set win. Alex Reid pitched in a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs on .333 hitting.
The Beach (10-3) used a late run to pull away in the first set and take the early advantage in the match. A 16-16 tie quickly turned into 20-16 Beach advantage, which continued rolling into the set win. The second set went back and forth as the teams traded big runs early.
The Beach rode a .531 hitting percentage in the second set to overcome four service aces from Bakersfield. LBSU did not make an attacking error in the set and scored the last three points of the set on kills from Jenelle Hudson and Reid and a Hudson ace.
Things reversed in the third set as Bakersfield quickly sprinted away with the set. Behind Danika Youngblood and Kelsee Sawyer, the Roadrunners (3-8) hit .581 in the set and did not commit an attacking error. LBSU turned it all back around in the fourth , hitting .600 to quickly put the set away while also holding CSUB to .030 hitting.
Bakersfield hit .228 in the match and received 19 kills from Youngblood and 17 from Sawyer. Mariah Alvidrez had 22 digs.
Tyler Jackson led the Beach with 16 digs in the four-setter.
LBSU concludes its nonconference slate tomorrow with a 4 p.m. matchup against Oregon State.
