THIS WEEK'S MATCHUPS
Long Beach State is 19-2 all-time against its two opponents on Friday, including 17-2 against Fresno State. In the only two meetings with Bakersfield, the 49ers have won all six sets. Last year, the Beach lost a five-set marathon with Oregon State and now trails 2-1 in the all-time series These are the final nonconference matches of the year for the Beach.
ABOUT THE TEAM
LBSU has posted one of the strongest defenses in the Big West to this point. The 49ers have averaged 2.77 blocks and 15.59 digs per set so far this year to rank second and first, respectively, in the Big West. The combination of blocking and digging has held opponents to a .142 hitting percentage this season with no team breaking the .200 barrier since the first two matches of the season.
ABOUT THE PLAYERS
Tyler Jackson moved up as one of Long Beach State's all-time dig leaders as she became the 10th to record over 1,100 career digs last week. Fellow senior Bre Mackie has seen her role evolve this year and has responded by leading the team in blocks and scoring. She ranks second on the team with nine aces this year after going three years without getting the chance to serve.
