Another Freshman All-America Accolade For Hampson

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Freshman shortstop Garrett Hampson reeled in yet another accolade as a Perfect Game Freshman All-American. Hampson was selected as the Second Team shortstop after his breakout freshman season.
The freshman from Reno, Calif. started all 60 games at shortstop for the Dirtbags as they made their first run into the postseason since 2008. Hampson earned First Team All-Big West honors and was the Big West's Freshman Player of The Year. Previously, he was selected as one of Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-Americans in addition to earning a spot on the NCBWA's All-Freshmen team.
He hit .308 on the year, which tied for the team lead, and led the Dirtbags with 74 hits. He also slugged .392 with 13 doubles, two triples and one homer while driving in 19 runs. His 44 runs scored were the most on the squad.
Hampson also led the team with six sacrifice flies in addition to having six sacrifice bunts on the year. The highly touted freshman also showed some prowess with the glove, making some dazzling plays in key moments of tight ballgames. He fielded .948 on the season and turned 34 double plays.
After helping the Dirtbags to their first postseason appearance since 2008, Hampson joined the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod League for summer ball. He is hitting .268 with 10 runs scored and four runs batted in.
