LONG BEACH, Calif. -
Baseball America has tabbed Long Beach State freshman Garrett Hampson and senior Michael Hill as one of the top 50 prospects in their respective classes. Hampson is the second Dirtbag to be named a Top 50 Freshman in the last three years.
Hampson came in at No. 15 on Baseball America's Top 50 list, published on Monday. He was the sixth position player to be ranked and the second player out of the Big West. The Washington Nationals took Hampson in the 26th round of last year's draft but he elected to head to Long Beach State.
After hitting .492 as a senior to cap his high school career, Baseball America had ranked Hampson as the No. 84 prospect going into the MLB Draft. He hit .469 through his entire high school career with over 400 hits.
Hill is coming off a breakout 2013 season in which he hit .336 with three home runs. He was ranked No. 25 senior prospect on Baseball America's Top 50 Seniors list. He was also the second senior listed out of the Big West.
The Dirtbags will take the field for the first time in 2014 on Feb. 14 when they host Vanderbilt at 6 p.m. Season tickets, as well as single game tickets, are available for purchase at LongBeachState.com.
