Incoming Dirtbag Class Ranks 18th Nationally

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach State Dirtbags' incoming class ranks among the nation's best, according to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The Dirtbags ranked 18th in the nation in the annual evaluation of incoming recruiting classes.
The CBN's ranking uses only players who joined their respective programs for the 2014-15 school year and excludes all signees who decided to sign a professional contract.
Long Beach State brought in four players this fall who were drafted but opted to attend college. Chris Mathewson was an All-State high school pitcher and was taken in the 28th round of this year's draft and fellow freshman Brock Lundquist was picked in the 37th round after a decorated prep career. Jared James transferred to the Beach from Sacramento City College after being drafted in the 30th round of this year's MLB Draft.
The Dirtbags full incoming class consists of 19 new players - 13 incoming freshmen and six junior college transfers. The season opens on Feb. 15 when the Dirtbags open a three-game series with Michigan at Blair Field.
