Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State hosted USC in a 13-7 upset. Beach was unable to keep up with the Trojans in their second MPSF Conference loss of the season.
In the first quarter, USC scored the first goal of the match to get the ball rolling. Junior Nolan McConnell answered back by scoring the first goal from the perimeter for Beach. Junior Zacchary Kappos added on to the scoreboard by scoring on the first 6 versus 5 man up power play. The Trojans came back and scored 3 more goals to end the quarter at 4-2.
In the second quarter, senior Nick Rascon scored his first lob goal from the perimeter. USC scored 4 more goals and finished 8-3 at halftime.
Beach stepped it up in the third quarter and put 3 more goals on the scoreboard. Rascon had a man up counter attack goal that had the crowd roaring for him. Senior Milos Vrzic scored on a power play. Senior Dan Matulis drew a 5 meter penalty shot from the center position and McConnell scored his second goal from the penalty shot. USC added on 3 more goals to end the quarter at 11-6.
To end the game, Rascon scored his third goal from a rebound shot. Unfortunately, it was not enough to hold up the Trojans and LBSU lost the match at 13-7.
Beach will play Loyola Marymount next Thursday, Nov 13 at 7 p.m. at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center at LBSU. Currently, Long Beach State is 19-5 overall and 5-2 in the MPSF Conference.
