THE MATCHUP
Two legendary coaches meet again as Brian Gimmillaro's 49ers face Dave Shoji's Rainbow Wahine. Gimmillaro is celebrating his 30th season at the helm of LBSU while Shoji is in his 40th year at Hawai'i. The two have combined for 1,925 wins in their 70 combined years of experience. The Beach prevailed in five sets when the two programs met in the Pyramid earlier this seaon. Neither team has lost since their last meeting and sit 1-2 in the Big West standings.
THE TEAM
The Beach puts a 14-match Big West winning streak on the line on Friday night in the Stan Sheriff Center. That streak dates back to the final five matches of last season. LBSU ranks 20th in the nation in both opponent hitting percentage and blocking this season. With the four-set win over CSUN, the Beach won its 19th game of the season and surpassed the win total from each of the two previous seasons. One more win will give the Beach its ninth 20-win season in the last 11 years.
THE PLAYERS
Alex Reid, Chisom Okpala, Bre Mackie and Ashley Murray all had double digit digs kills last week while hitting over .300. Setter Jenelle Hudson found some favorable matchups for all hitters in leading the Beach to the road win. In the back row, Tyler Jackson had her fifth 20+ dig match of the season and became the fifth player in LBSU history to record 1,300 career digs.
