IRVINE, Calif. - Another big win has led to more awards for the Long Beach State women's volleyball team, as senior Tyler Jackson and freshman Ashley Murray added another award to their collection. Jackson was selected as the Big West's Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and Murray earned her second Freshman of the Week honor.
Jackson is the only repeat winner of the Big West's new Defensive Player of the Week award and took home the honor for the third time this week. She posted 22 digs in the four set road win at CSUN for her fifth 20-plus dig match of the season, including the last two matches in a row.
Jackson is averaging a career-best 4.08 digs per set, which ranks fifth in the Big West. In Big West matches, she ranks third in the conference with 4.32 digs per set. The senior libero picked up her 1,300th career dig in her 22-dig effort at CSUN, making her only the fifth player to reach the benchmark in Long Beach State history.
Murray's Freshman of the Week honor is the second such honor of the season for her but is her third weekly award of the season. She was both the Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week for the Big West on Oct. 20.
The middle blocker from Torrance, Calif. picked up a team-best six blocks on Saturday at CSUN to go along with a season-best 12 kills. She tied her season-high with a trio of big solo blocks on the defensive end and hit .455 on the offensive end to lead the Beach in scoring with 16.5 points. She continues to lead all Big West freshmen in blocking and hitting percentage.
The Big West named UC Davis' Kaylin Squyres as the Player of the Week.
Long Beach State heads to the islands this Friday for a single match at Hawai'i.
