Coach Arroyo Named 2014 MPSF Coach Of The Year

Long Beach, Calif. - Men's Water Polo ninth-year Coach Gavin Arroyo was named the 2014 MPSF Coach of the Year. This is Arroyo's third MPSF Coach of the Year honor, also earning it in 2007 and 2012.



During the MPSF Championship Conference, Coach Arroyo led the Beach past No. 5 California for the second win against the Golden Bears this season, and then defeated No. 1 UCLA to lead them to the Championship Match against No. 2 Stanford.



Long Beach State won a program record of 5 MPSF regular games and made their way to their first ever MPSF Championship Match. For the first time in program history, Long Beach State placed two student-athletes on the all-conference first-team, juniors Nolan McConnell and Zacchary Kappos., Juniors Pavo Ljepopio and Dimitrios Lappas, and senior Ricardo Guimaraes also received an All- MPSF Honorable mention.



Kappos led Long Beach State with sixty-six goals on the season, and averaged 2.2 goals per game, a mark that stood fourth in the conference. McConnell placed eleventh in the conference standings with forty-seven goals and an average of 1.8 goals per match.



Both players are set to return for the Beach next season, as well as 2014 second-team All-MPSF Honorable Mentions Pavo Ljepopio and Dimitrios Lappas.
