IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Alex Reid powered her way to her first career Big West Player of the Week honor, the conference announced on Monday. Reid led the Long Beach State women's volleyball team to five-set win at Hawai'i.
Reid had a team-high of 16 kills to lead the Beach (20-4, 10-0 Big West) to a crucial win on the islands. The five-set win was LBSU's first in Hawai'i since the 'Bows rejoined the Big West in 2012 and first since 1993. It also gave the Beach a three game lead to just six to go in the regular season.
Reid also had 14 digs to go along with her 16 kills for her sixth double-double of the season. She had a monster second set to lead the Beach charge to a 2-0 advantage in the match. Reid powered down 10 kills in the second set alone to lead Long Beach State.
With the help of Reid's 16 kills, the Beach stayed undefeated in the Big West and secured its ninth 20-win season in the last 11 years.
Reid is the second LBSU student-athlete to earn the Big West Player of the Week honor this season, joining senior Bre Mackie. It is the first career weekly honor for Reid, who was recognized on the Big West's 2012 All-Freshmen Team.
The Beach, ranked 20th in the latest AVCA poll, returns home this weekend to host Cal Poly on Friday at 7 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
