THE MATCHUP
Long Beach State protected its home floor when CSUN visited on Oct. 4 with a four set win. The Beach went on to an 8-0 record in Big West play while CSUN finished the first half of conference play at 5-3. The Beach ended a fou-match skid to the Matadors with the early October win. Bre Mackie and Alex Reid combined for 31 kills in the win.
THE TEAM
Long Beach State held UC Riverside in the negatives last Friday to lower its opponents hitting percentage to .146. That mark is the best in the Big West and ranks 11th in the country. The Beach also ranks 20th in the nation in blocking with 2.80 blocks per set. With two wins last week, the Beach completed a perfect October, going 6-0 in the calendar month.
OKPALA ON FIRE
Senior Chisom Okpala has been on fire over the last two months. She is hitting .390 over the last 15 matches with 2.87 kills per set and 1.06 block per set. Her hot streak began immediately after she sat out three matches with an injury. Since then, she has hit .300 or better in 13 of the 15 matches and .400 or better in seven of those matches. Her .413 hitting percentage in Big West matches is the best in the Big West. Her season percentage is up to .347.
JACKSON CONTINUES DIGGING DEEPER INTO RECORD BOOK
Tyler Jackson passed Misty May-Treanor for fifth-place at the Beach in career digs. In Jackson's 20 dig performance against UC Davis, she recorded her 1,280th career dig to move into fifth all-time. She currently has 1,295 career digs and is just 40 away from catching Christine Romero for fourth all-time.
