Long Beach, Calif. - Former Beach Basketball star and Big West Player of the Year James Ennis is set to begin his first 2014-15 NBA season this afternoon as the Miami Heat tip off against the Washington Wizards at 4:30 p.m. PT.
Ennis was signed by the Heat in July after the swingman spent one season in Australia, earning first-team All-NBL honors and finishing third in the MVP voting in the professional Australian basketball league.
Miami had control of Ennis' rights after the 2013 NBA Draft. Ennis, selected 50th overall by the Atlanta Hawks, saw his rights traded to the Heat before the end of the evening. In the process, Ennis became the first 49er picked since the 2006 draft, and the first under Dan Monson as coach of Long Beach State.
Ennis will become the second 49er under Monson to play in the NBA. Casper Ware played in nine games at the end of the 2013-14 NBA season for the Philadelphia 76ers.
