LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 24 Long Beach State women's volleyball team will take a break from its conference schedule on Thursday to entertain the Chinese professional team, Zhejiang. The matchup between the beach and Zhejiang will be Zhejiang's sixth and final match in its trip to the United States.
Zhejiang competes in Group A of the Chinese Volleyball League. It is one of the top clubs in the premier volleyball league in China and recently won the Chinese Volleyball League national championship. It was the third championship in the last six years for Zhejiang.
Thursday's match at LBSU will be its final match on this trip and the only match outside of the state of Texas. Zhejiang is currently 3-1 on its American trip. It began the trip with a five-set win over Texas Tech before sweeping Wayland Baptist (NAIA) and TCU. Yesterday, No. 5 Texas swept the Chinese national champions and the two teams will square off again today.
The Beach comes into the exhibition match as hot as any team in the country, riding an eight-match win streak and ranked 24th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association top-25 poll. As an exhibition, Thursday's match with Zhejiang does not count towards LBSU's overall record or any individual statistics.
