LONG BEACH - Long Beach State athletics continued its annual tradition on Saturday (Aug. 24), with 49er student-athletes and coaches helping over 2,000 students move into the dorms as the campus opened for the 2013-14 school year.
Over 180 student-athletes from 12 Long Beach State teams, along with their coaches and athletic staff members, joined fraternities, sororities, and student-council members in helping to provide a sense of community and pride about joining the 49er family.
The student-athletes greeted new students and their families and talked to them about their time at Long Beach State, while also lifting and carting boxes, suitcases and furniture.
In addition, the Long Beach State dance team handed out free ticket vouchers to parents for the women's volleyball alumni game, which took place Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid, allowing families to take in their first 49er athletic event together.
Schedule cards and posters were also disseminated and there was a photo backdrop where students were able to take pictures.
