Okpala Earns AVCA All-Region Honorabe Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the second consecutive year, junior middle blocker Chisom Okpalawas selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-Region team. Okpala earned Honorable Mention for the Pacific South region that includes teams from the Pac-12, West Coast, Western Athletic, Mountain West and Big West conferences.

Okpala's newest accolade comes on the heels of another solid season as Long Beach State's middle blocker. The junior from Yorba Linda, Calif. led the team with a .351 hitting percentage and hit 285 kills this year. She led the 49ers this year with 132 total blocks, averaging 1.15 per set.

Last week, Okpala earned All-Big West First Team honors for the second time after helping The Beach to an 18-11 overall record and an 11-5 record in the Big West. The 49ers ended the 2013 season on a five-match win streak to clinch its 27th consecutive winning season - all under head coach Brian Gimmillaro.
