IRVINE, Calif. -
The Big West, in consultation with ESPN, has built a mobile production facility that will allow the Conference to produce as many as 60 events from five Southern California member institutions annually for ESPN3. Long Beach State, along with UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine, will host the new mobile facility for Big West contests throughout the remainder of the year.
The broadcast will utilize full ESPN production standards, including graphics, replay and on-air crew. It is the first fully operational mobile production unit of its kind that expands upon what ESPN Emerging Technology has already done at the institutional level.
A full schedule of events is still being determined but coverage begins with two Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinal games this Thursday at Cal State Fullerton marks the launch of a unique collaboration between the Conference and ESPN.
“The Big West Conference is excited about undertaking this ambitious project into the realm of ESPN3 and continuing to do all we can to promote and publicize the successes of our institutions and the quality of their programs across several sports,” said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. “Our new relationship with ESPN complements our national broadcast arrangement with ESPN’s linear platforms – ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.”
The package includes live contests in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball for the 2013-14 school year.
ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through Xbox and Apple TV. It is available in more than 85 million households nationwide at no additional cost to fans who receive their high speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated provider.
The full ESPN3 package, including a schedule of basketball games, will be announced at a later date.
