RIGHT AWAY
Dan Jennings continues to lead the Big West in rebounding, even after playing two more ranked opponents on the season, and is averaging just under a double-double with 11.0 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game on the year.
The Washington game concludes a five-game stretch for the 49ers away from the Walter Pyramid. That is the largest amount of games Long Beach State has had consecutively away from home in the regular season since the 2010-11 season (7 games)
Long Beach State has played a ranked opponent in nearly half of its games (3 of 7); and came the closest the team has been to a victory since the 49ers 2011 win over No. 14 Xavier in a 73-67 loss against then No. 10 VCU in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, a span of eight games. Branford Jones led four 49ers in double-figures with 19 points.
Despite the loss Sunday, the 49ers defensively had one of their better performances, forcing 23 turnovers and holding Kansas State to 52 points, the fewest allowed by Long Beach State on the year. That was also fewer points allowed than all but one game during the 2012-13 campaign for LBSU.
With the opening day win over Hawaii Pacific, Long Beach State head coach Dan Monson tied Seth Greenberg with 105 wins at Long Beach State. That mark ranks tied for second in school history. Jerry Tarkanian has the most victories as a 49er head coach, winning 122 games from 1968 to 1973.

THE PLAYERS
Junior Mike Caffey received Preseason All-Big West honors, one of six players picked one season after earning First-Team All-Big West honors as a sophomore. Caffey leads the 49ers in scoring with 15.0 points per game, and has scored over 20 points twice on the year. Caffey is also leading the team with 27 assists, and is third in rebounding with 4.4 boards per game.
After scoring 12 points against Loyola Marymount, junior A.J. Spencer has secured a spot in the starting lineup, scoring in double-figures in four of the last five games. The junior college transfer scored 13 points on the road at Kansas State, 12 points against Michigan and then a career-high 14 against VCU, and is third on the team with an 8.1 ppg average.
Originally serving as a backup to Mike Caffey, Branford Jones forced his way into the starting lineup as an extra ball-handler against VCU, and responded with a breakout game, scoring 19 points in 37 minutes with just one turnover against VCU's havoc defense. The redshirt freshman is continuing to showcase much of the promise the guard showed before going down with an ankle injury in the first game of the year last season.
Junior college transfer David Samuels has played well in his first few games at the Division I level, averaging 6.3 points per game while placing second on the team in rebounds with 5.4 per game behind senior Dan Jennings.
