
49ers split pair of games at SoCal Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Long Beach State split a pair of games during the final day of the SoCal Men's Water Polo Tournament on Sunday beating Air Force 13-7 before losing to Loyola Marymount 13-10.
Junior Dan Matulis led the 49ers (12-3), who finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, with five goals.
Game 1: No. 9 Long Beach State 13, No. 14 Air Force 7
Four players recorded multiple goals as the 49ers defeated Air Force 13-7 Sunday morning at the UCSB Campus Pool. Zacchary Kappos led LBSU with a season-high four goals. The 49er win was the second of the season over the Falcons (6-6).
Dimitrios Lappas, Nolan McConnell, and Matulis each chipped in with two goals.
Kappos found the back of the net once in the first quarter before slamming in three-straight goals in a span of 2 minutes and 12 seconds in the third.
Balint Meszros recorded 10 saves for the 49ers.
Game 2: No. 10 Loyola Marymount 13, No. 9 Long Beach State 10
The Lions outscored the 49ers 3-0 in the third period to rally from a halftime deficit and then held on for the win.
Matulis led the 49ers, who got goals from eight players, with three goals, while Joey Fabian scored twice.
Brian Schiefer sparked a 49er rally in the fourth period with a goal, but the Lions' (7-6) three-goal advantage in the third period was the difference.
Balint Meszros finished with nine saves.
The 49ers return to action Friday at the Claremont Convergence.
