No. 15 49ers shutout visiting Saint Francis, 2-0

LONG BEACH - Junior Jessika Oseguera and sophomore Natalie Zeeni each scored a goal to carry the No. 15-ranked Long Beach State women's soccer team past visiting Saint Francis, 2-0, on Friday night at George Allen Field.
This was LBSU's ninth consecutive win at home as the 49ers (2-0) have won their last 12 of 13 home games at George Allen Field. The victory also gave 49er head coach Mauricio Ingrassia career win No. 98.
LBSU dominated the first half with 16 shots, with seven on goal. Senior Nadia Link led the 49ers into halftime with five shots with two on goal, while junior Eileen Maes collected four shots, one on goal. The Red Flash (1-2) recorded four shots for the half.
Link came close to recording her first goal of the season in the 18th minute, shooting the ball from the left side of the box that bounced off the crossbar and over the net.
In the 34th minute, Oseguera recorded her first goal of the season with a header into the net from nine yards out to put the 49ers out on top, 1-0.
LBSU would continue to outplay Saint Francis in the second half, taking nine shots while the Red Flash recorded just one.
In the 78th minute, Zeeni recorded her first goal as a 49er, taking a pass from Maes and shooting the ball from eight yards out to the far post of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marrina Meyers recorded her first shutout as a 49er with three saves and captured her second win in front the net.
Saint Francis' best scoring opportunity came in the 41st minute, when Tesa McKibben shot the ball from the left side of the box that passed to the far right post.
Overall, the 49ers finished the game with 25 shots, eight on goal while Saint Francis had five shots, three on goal.
Link led the 49ers with a team-high six shots, one on goal, followed by Maes with with five shots, two on goal. Sophomores Taylor Nelson and Renee Mendiola had three shots each, with both recording one on goal.
LBSU concludes its three-game home stand on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., hosting Baylor at George Allen Field.
