Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Brennan Metzger was named first-team Capital One Academic All-District 8, one of three outfielders selected for their balance of academics and athletics in the region. District 8 includes all Division I schools in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Metzger leads Long Beach State in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.315), RBI (26), doubles (11), HBP (12) and stolen bases (9). The senior is also leading the Big West in hitting in conference games at .429 as well as On-Base Percentage at .507.
This year's honor is the third time that Metzger has been selected as Academic All-District 8, and the second time that he has been a first-team selection, with the other coming in 2010. Metzger carries a 3.59 GPA in Criminal Justice.
As a first-team selection, Metzger is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration, one of 24 outfielders in the nation. Three teams will be selected for Academic All-America. The LBSU baseball program has had one player selected as an Academic All-American; Shane Peterson was a first-team selection in 2008.
