EUGENE, Ore. - Philip Chian fired a 2-under-par 70 in the first two rounds of the Duck Invitational to tie for third place and lead Long Beach State to place second.
The junior from Covina was tied for fifth after completing the opening round with four birdies, two bogeys and 12 pars. Chian came back in the second round posting another 70 that was highlighted by a bogey-free front nine with three birdies. He would go on to record just one bogey on the back nine at the par-4 14th hole.
LBSU posted an opening round score of 280 to finish in first-place and hold a four-stroke lead over tournament host and No. 14-ranked Oregon. The Ducks would improve in the second round by five shots with a 279 as the 49ers carded a 284 to lead by one-shot over LBSU.
Junior Raymond Ho opened the day with a 74, tying for 28th. Ho came back in the second round tying a tournament low 68 to finish in seventh at 2-under 142.
Seniors Kevin Lim and Kevin Roy are tied for ninth as both players posted identical scores of 71 and 73 to finish the day at even-144.
Freshman Xander Schauffele fired a tournament low 68 in the opening round to place him on top of the leaderboard. In the second round, Schauffele fell in the standings to tie for 19th with a 78 to finish at 2-over 146.
Anders Engell of St. Mary's and Eugene Wong of Oregon leads the field of 80 players by two strokes.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with the 49ers paired with Oregon, Oregon State and St. Mary's.
