BANDON, Ore. - Long Beach State shot a 3-over-par 287 in Saturday's second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship to move into second place.
LBSU improved by four shots from Friday's opening round score of 291at the par-71, 6,718 yard Bandon Dunes Resort Trails Course. The 49ers has a 36-hole score of 10-over 578 and trails first-place Washington by seven strokes going into the final round on Sunday.
Senior Kevin Roy led the way for LBSU for the second consecutive day, carding an even-71 to move up in the standings to tie for fourth. Roy recorded five birdies for the day, including three in a row that began at the par-4, 8th hole. Roy also had nine pars with just three bogeys and one-double bogey.
Senior Kevin Lim shot a 72 for a 2-over 144 to move up in the standings by three spots to tie for ninth. Lim carded 13 pars and two birdies, while turning in three bogeys.
Junior Philip Chian and freshman Xander Schauffele recorded a second round 72 as both players moved up in the standings. Chian moved from 19th to tie for 13th with a 3-over, while Schauffele jumped from 35th to tie for 25th at 5-over.
Freshman Matt Fliss improved by two-strokes with a 75, moving up in the standings by 10 spots to tie for 51st.
Chris Williams of Washington sits on top of the leaderboard at 4-under and holds a two-shot lead over Rak Cho of Oregon.
Final round play concludes on Sunday.
