Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State has announced the hiring of Miranda Carvalho as an Assistant Athletics Director for Development. Carvalho moves to the Athletic Department from the 49er Foundation within the University.
An alumna of Long Beach State, Carvalho was the team captain for the 2001 women's tennis team, the first team to reach the Big West Tournament championship as well as the first LBSU team to post a 20-win season. Carvalho played for two seasons with the 49ers after transferring from South Carolina, and earned All-Big West honors in both singles and doubles in each season.
"We're thrilled to have Miranda joining our staff," said Senior Associate Athletics Director Bill Brady. "As a former student-athlete and a continuing University employee, Miranda has a very strong connection with Long Beach State that will resonate in her activities within the department and the community."
As part of a reorganization focused on helping Long Beach State's coaches maximize their fundraising for operational revenue, Carvalho will work primarily with the women's tennis, women's golf, and softball programs in fundraising. She will also serve as the main coordinator for Jewels of the Night, the largest single fundraising event for Long Beach State.
Within the development office, other sport responsibilities and event management duties will be assigned accordingly following the hiring of Carvalho.
Carvalho received her Master's degree from Seattle University, and was a 2001 graduate of Long Beach State.
