Meehan concludes action at Pan American Cup with U.S. Men's A2 National Team

LONG BEACH - Middle blocker Ryan Meehan was named to the U.S. Men's A2 National Team, along with former 49ers Robert Tarr and Dustin Watten.
The U.S. Men advanced to the championship of the Pan American Cup in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Puerto Rico, but eventually fell to Brazil in the gold-medal match last Saturday (June 18). Game scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 28-26.
This was the first competition for Meehan as a member of the U.S. Men's A2 Team. Tarr served as the team captain in his fourth Pan Am Cup, while Watten made his third appearance in the tournament.
The U.S. Men were attempting to win their fifth Pan American Cup as they had won the event in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In the process, Brazil won its first title in the sixth annual event.
Tarr and Will Price led the Americans against Brazil with 17 points each. Tarr scored all of his points on kills via 27 attacks. Watten also tied for the team lead with seven digs.
The U.S. Men's A2 team had wrapped up pool play on Wednesday, June 15, finishing with a 3-0 record in Group C. They defeated the Bahamas (25-14, 25-12, 25-12), Panama (25-14, 25-14, 25-11) and Argentina (25-15, 25-21, 25-19).
